Ready, Shoot, Aim!

Been giving a lot of thought to documenting my musical endeavors somehow. I think it could be worthwhile for some people out there. Not only the product, but also the process.

I think music making, if you really live it from within, is a lot like taming dragons. We only know partially the forces we are working with. No wonder that it's a profession with a lot of 'job accidents'; drug addictions, alcohol, compulsive behaviors... early and violent deaths... Coincidence? Yeah right.

In my 20s I was in a band. Everybody is in a band in their 20s. My experience ended, from what I remember, with my face eating pavement. Dragon 1, tamer 0. I had to quit music for a long time, couldn't stand the heat, although I always knew I would come back some day. Music is for me "that thing I only can do". Heck, I would do it just the same if I was stranded in a deserted island, even knowing no one would ever listen, I have this concert going on in my brain and I only get relief when I get to produce the sounds, sometimes the dances, that match it in the outside world with enough fidelity. It's my hell of choice and I'm very happy in it, and I wouldn't want it any other way. But it can consume you. If something I've learned is that, to perform any work with safety and consistence, you need to have a process in place. And that's specially true when dealing with dragons.
